Galiwa
Cultivated for 18 years in Switzerland, resulting in an eminently sweet dessert apple, that is also well-suited for cold regions.
Parents:
Gala X K1R20A44
Growth:
medium strong, compact growth, vigorous fruiting wood
Ripeness:
depending on the region mid until the end of September, up to 2 weeks before Golden Delicious, staggered ripening; ripe for consumption: from harvest
Appearance:
medium-sized, roundish, slightly conical, regular, smooth (fruit) skin; bright red body colour above orange on yellow basis
Quality:
firm, juicy, crisp, creamy-yellow, fragrant
Taste:
fruity, eminently sweet, intense flavour
Crop yield:
early and good, somewhat vulnerable to alternate bearing
Special notes:
Scab resistance (Vf) i.e.: scab-resistant because of resistance to malus floribunda, medium susceptibility to fire blight. Dessert apple with a sugar value, which is still above the Gala (variety). Well-suited as a sweet, well-storable apple for the organic cultivation.
