Harrow Sweet

,Harrow Sweet' is from Canada and is one of the few fire blight resistant pear varieties. Its growth is quite strong, it is very productive with a good yield and it is even recommended by the Interreg IV project "Gemeinsam gegen Feuerbrand (Together against fire blight)". But not only its fire blight resistance but also its very tasty aromatic fruits make it a good choice for the garden.

Ripeness:

early to mid-September, about three weeks after ,Williams Christ'; can be kept in fruit cellar eight to ten days; time for harvest: from the beginning of October; can be kept in refrigerated rooms until December

Appearance:

medium-sized, greenish-yellow with slightly pink cheek

Quality:

firm flesh, juicy, white to cream

Taste:

good, with a fine, sweet aroma

Crop yield:

early onsetting, consistently medium to high

Special notes:

Recommended by the Bayerische Landesanstalt für Weinbau und Gartenbau (LWG) as fruit tree novelty for allotments and gardens. Thinning is recommended to get particularly aromatic fruits.
