Laprima

The new gooseberry variety ‘Laprima‘ was bred at the University of Geisenheim with the objective of creating a large and hairless fruit to be marketed fresh. Its excellent fruit quality and the good flavour even if market-ripe are convincing. It is well suited to commercial fruit growing and home gardens as well.

Parents:

‘Achilles‘ x ‘Rokula‘

Growth:

Vigorous, upright, well branched if training a hedge.

Ripeness:

Early, 3 – 4 days after ‘Xenia‘.

Appearance:

Green-yellow with a bright red (market-ripe); dark red, oval (fully ripe).

Quality:

Large fruits, very attractive, hairless, hardly ever burst, little fire blight.

Taste:

Aromatic, intensive gooseberry flavour, the fruit skin is not sour; very tasty even if market-ripe; consistently very good ranking in tastings.

Crop yield:

High and consistent crop yields with a high content of class 1.

Special notes:

Only low to medium susceptibility to mildew.
