Topas is characterised by high sourishness values and is therefore primarily well-suited for juice and cider processing. It has a remarkable deep wine-red juice colour.

Growth:

Grows strongly upright, pruning (cutting back/out) is necessary, blossom buds on the one-year wood.

Blossom:

medium early, partially self-fertilising

Ripeness:

medium early, approx. one week before „Schattenmorelle“ (morello), can be left hanging in the tree relatively long without any lost of taste

Appearance:

longish, purple fruit

Quality:

fruit pulp medium firm (to the bite), not easily pickable

Taste:

very sourish taste

Crop yield:

high yields

Special notes:

hardly susceptible against bacterial leaf blight, susceptible with respect to Monilia; prefers frost-protected locations and good soils
