„Anschneiden“ or

„Ableiten“: So what?

From time to time these two terms lead to confusion among garden enthusiasts – at worst it results in inappropriate pruning. Following a short explanation: The “Anschnitt” always refers to the shortening of an one year old shoot. “Ableiten” means that hardly fertile shoots which are in an unfavourable position and are growing too strong are „abgeleitet auf“ short shoots that are in a favourable, mostly horizontally position. By the way, to open the crown outward young trees are also “abgeleitet”.
